Unfortunately we have had to add Wow Butter (a soy based peanut butter alternative) to our list of foods that are not allowed at school. Sandwiches have been brought to school that parents cannot say with confidence, are prepared with Wow Butter, as opposed to peanut butter (because they did not personally prepare the sandwich).
Also please note when sending in treats for celebrations the labels must say "Nut and Peanut Free". There is a new label placed on foods that are peanut free, illustrating a peanut with a slash through it; but when you look closely the label reads "May contain tree nuts". Unfortunately we have had to send home birthday treats this past month with such labelling.
We have also had to stop allowing meals from Tim Horton's and Subway because both facilities carry nut/peanut products and they cannot guarantee nut free/peanut free foods.
Please also be sure to include healthy choices in your child's lunch bag. Sliced fruit, vegetables, yogurts and cheese are always a great option. Students in the After School program should always bring snacks to school. An ice-pack is needed as well to keep foods cool and fresh. Please speak to your child's teacher for snack ideas that are both healthy and safe to share
We appreciate your attention to these details. Some of the allergies that we have in the school are life threatening and in following these procedures you are helping to keep students safe.
