Welcome to Northstar Aquatics! Our ground-breaking program is the first of its kind in Canada – a swim program that truly incorporates Montessori principles. Northstar Aquatics has been in operation since 2017, and has grown in enrollment each year. Our all-season, heated salt-water swimming pool is beautifully surrounded by a solarium-type enclosure and a rubber surface decking all around the 18 x 50ft pool.
As a subsidiary of Northstar Montessori (since 1996), you can be rest assured the same principles are being applied to our aquatics program. We have received numerous great reviews from our past and present swimmers and we continue to improve our program each year. Read below for more reasons why Northstar is one of a kind!
Why Does Your Child Need a Montessori-Based Swim Program?
The Montessori focus on the individual development of the whole child ensures that children are challenged appropriately. Students become uninterested in tasks that are too simple or frustrated with tasks that are too far beyond their current ability. The child’s ability to be involved with their own evaluation and progress fosters awareness of their abilities, and their own native drive to learn and improve. Accordingly, the child acquires new skills at a faster pace than in traditional programs and retains their skills longer because they have a deeper understanding of what they have learned.
How Does it Compare to Traditional Programs?
In traditional swim programs, improvement of the student is managed by breaking skill progressions into levels. Each level has requirements for both endurance and technique. Students are not permitted to move to the next level until they have mastered all endurance and technique requirements of every skill at their current level.
What’s the Difference?
In our program, students learn how to swim more quickly because they are encouraged to pursue their areas of strength, while meticulous observation and evaluation is used to adjust lesson plans to ensure a well-rounded swimming education.
Do You Offer Only Swim Instructions?
Northstar Aquatics is also able to offer courses which include standard First Aid, CPR, and Leadership Courses, that will lead our swimmers down the road to becoming a lifeguard.
