I received my Bachelor Degree in History from York University and attended Sheridan College in the Early Childhood Montessori Program the following year. I began my Montessori teaching journey at Northstar 17 years ago. My first year at Northstar was to complete a field placement. I enjoyed the school’s passionate, nurturing atmosphere and most importantly the authentic Montessori teaching approach. I love teaching and interacting with young children who are daily showing kindness, creativity, love, potential and eagerness. It is very rewarding to be part of their lives at a time where they begin to grow and seek knowledge and understanding of the world around them. Understanding how important the first school experience is for each child, I want all my students to be able to learn and grow in a fun, nurturing, safe and loving environment. Being a part of the Casa 4 team and the Northstar community is rewarding and fulfilling. It is a pleasure to see the school’s growth, as its atmosphere remains authentic and true to its philosophy.

I attended Colleges in Northern Ireland graduating in History and Political Science. I completed the Montessori Program at the London Montessori Centre in Dublin, Ireland. My first Montessori teaching experience was in Madrid, Spain teaching Grades 1-3. I worked in the Montessori field for three years in Canada prior to joining Northstar in September 2004. Teaching became my passion. Looking back on my early school years I remember my Grade 3 teacher. She always had a smile and encouraging words. Learning was always fun in her class and creating a similar experience in my classroom is important. I want to help students develop their abilities and to be able to provide them the best opportunities available to achieve their goals. I am grateful and proud to be a part of this growing community. Being at Northstar, students and families have support and access to many caring people all in one building. We are a team and working in a team provides invaluable support.

I am an Early Child Care Assistant, graduate of Everest College class of 2008. I have gained experience in working with children of various age groups by working at a child care centre for 5 years. I greatly enjoy working with children and being part of a team. I am excited to be working in the Casa 3 classroom and looking forward to meeting all of the students and parents. May this be the first of many memorable years to come.

Not all Montessori schools follow the proper guidelines set out by Dr. Maria Montessori, the founder of this method of teaching.

    What Other People Said...

"My daughter has been at Northstar since she was 2 years old and started in the Toddler Program. She is now in the final year of the Casa Program and my son has taken her place in the Toddler Room. I can’t say enough about how Northstar has gone above and beyond to ensure their success. The school takes an individual approach to each student, recognizing that each child learns in their own way and at their own pace. My daughter has excelled in this non competitive environment and is outperforming her circle of peers who are older than her in the public system. She has a love for learning and truly enjoys working with the Montessori materials. The Casa Program does a great job of ensuring that the students really understand what they are learning. The Toddler and Pre Casa Programs are both nurturing and educational and truly set the stage for learning at the higher levels. My son at just a year and a half has shown great independence as well as the ability to follow direction and play well in a group setting. The school has done a great job of balancing both the social and academic needs of the child which in my opinion is key to their success." - Shelley
