Talk about getting distracted!
I went into a classroom this morning with my forms and clipboard and with the sincere intent to observe the entire environment; both staff and students. However, very quickly my attention went toward a voice I could hear singing; the song was O'Canada. I watched as one of our first year students built the Red Rods and then proceeded to put them away. The whole time he sang and skipped as he worked. He wasn't the quietest, he wasn't the smoothest in his movements... but he was the happiest! It was just 9:00am the Tuesday after the long weekend... a day typically teachers can expect to have some emotional students, reluctant to come to class after the extended weekend. Not this little guy! He worked merrily with confidence and joy. The best part was that a teacher was approaching him, she stopped watched him for a minute and then moved on to another student. She did not interrupt him and his work cycle with all the singing and skipping! Now that is Montessori!
What a great way to start the day!
