June, 2013
- Northstar announced plans to expand its 23,600 sq ft facility with an additional 11,000 sq ft facility. This will accommodate specialty rooms for music, art, media computer/science lab, an additional PreCasa classroom and a Middle School classroom. The largest component that will be added is a large indoor swimming pool to facilitate our swim program. It is with intent to teach the red cross swim program.
- Northstar elementary students have formed an ECO AWARENESS COUNCIL to teach others to practice the 4R’s (Reduction, Re-Use, Recycle and Recovery). They have also implemented energy saving days such as NO MICROWAVE MONDAYS and also litterless lunches.
July-August, 2013
- Northstar has installed solar film on all windows on the west side of the building to reduce unnecessary use of air conditioning during the warmer months.
- Northstar has installed 2 more basketball nets in the gym at school.
- Northstar has done some needed maintenance at the school. Including freshly painted doors and walls.
- The main entrance has been given a facelift by installing a new wall covering.
September, 2013
- Northstar has decided to make a change in our carbon footprint by installing LED induction lighting that will reduce our energy bill by 40%.
October, 2013
- Northstar will be updating our play area by regrading and replacing the artificial grass.
- Northstar has completed replacement of light fixtures with LED induction lighting. The goal is to reduce our carbon footprint and teach the students how to help Mother Earth with the current troubles.
